Venue

The workshop will be held at the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) in Budapest:

Tóth Kálmán utca 4
1097 Budapest
(Hungary)

How to get there

You can get there either by taxi (see also below) or by public transportation. Public transportation in Budapest is cheap, easy to use, and usually well organized. The easiest way is to take the tram 2 (probably the city's most beautiful tram line!) and step out at "Haller utca / Soroksári út". This line is easily connected to the trams 4 and/or 6, which are easily accessible from almost every location in Budapest.

Information on public transportation in Budapest can be found here or on Google maps (which provides accurate information).

Alternatively, you may want to install the "Taxify" smartphone app, which is the local version of “Uber” (Uber is not available in Hungary).

From the Guesthouse of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Buda)

Walk to the bus stop "Kapisztrán tér" and take the bus 16 (direction "Déak Ferenc tér"). Step out at the station "Széchenyi István tér" (i.e. just after crossing the Danube) and walk to the tram stop "Eötvös tér". Take the tram 2 direction "Közvágóhíd H" (i.e. towards South). Step out at "Haller utca / Soroksári út" and walk in the same direction until you cross the Tóth Kálmán utca (workshop location).

From the Domus 'Collegium Hungaricum' (Pest)

Walk to the bus stop "Cházár András utca" and take on of the following buses: 5 (direction "Pasaréti tér"), 7 (direction "Albertfalva vasútállomás"), 110 or 112 (direction "Thomán István utca"). Step out at the station "Ferenciek tere M" and walk towards the Danube to the tram stop "Március 15. tér". Take the tram 2 direction "Közvágóhíd H" (i.e. towards South). Step out at "Haller utca / Soroksári út" and walk in the same direction until you cross the Tóth Kálmán utca (workshop location).

From the IBIS Budapest Centrum Hotel (Pest)

From Kálvin tér, take the tram 47, 48, or 49 for one stop (or walk) to "Fővam tér". Then, take the tram 2 direction "Közvágóhíd H" (i.e. towards South). Step out at "Haller utca / Soroksári út" and walk in the same direction until you cross the Tóth Kálmán utca (workshop location).

Logistics

From the airport to the city center

By taxi

We recommend to take a taxi from the airport. When you walk out of the airport terminal, turn to the left and you will find a booth where you give the address of your destination and they order your taxi. The airport taxi is well organised, regulated, and it will cost around ~9000 HUF (30 EUR). Just in case, here are a few taxi companies:

  • 6x6 Taxi: +36-1-666-6666
  • Barát Taxi: +36-70-773-2000
  • Radio Taxi: +36-(1)-777-7777
  • Taxi 4: +36-(1)-4-444-444

By bus/metro

There are two ways to connect airport to the city center via public transportation:

  • Bus 100E: direct bus line that stops at Kálvin tér and terminates at Déak Ferenc tér (both in the city center). Note that tickets for the bus 100E are specific to this line only! (to be purchased at any ticket vending machine at the airport and in the city.)
  • Bus 200E to Kőbánya-Kispest (terminus) --> metro M3: can be used with regular tickets (also 7-day passes). Note that metro M3 is replaced by buses on week days after 20:30 and on week-ends (full time).

Information on public transport in Budapest can be found here or on Google maps (which provides accurate information).

By shuttle (miniBUD)

Door-to-door shuttles (shared between 4-5 persons) can be ordered at the arrival hall of Budapest airport. Count between 10-30 EUR (depending on where you go and whether you want a return ticket as well).

More information on shuttles can be found here.

Additional information

Euro is normally not accepted in Hungary, the currency is Forint (HUF): 1 EUR = 317 HUF and 1 USD = 280 HUF. We do NOT recommend to change (significant amounts of) money or use the ATM at the airport in Budapest, because the exchange rate will be bad. Please take out cash from ATMs in the city, they will provide the usual exchange rate. You won’t need cash to get to the city from the airport, the taxi will accept credit cards (actually, most places in Hungary do).
